What
Art Jam is a multi-day transgender run-and-focused festival and art making extravaganza!! Attendees share knowledge, try new things, build community and get silly in an environment that uplifts and affirms all gender identities, presentations and experiences. The weekend will also provide abundant opportunities for creative collaboration and connection. All participants are heartily encouraged to apply to lead their own classes, workshops, or demonstrations – we will provide whatever materials you need!
All materials for every workshop and all the food, drinks, and snacks that you could want are provided. You will walk away from Art Jam with new skills, a larger community, and several finished art projects.
Who Can Attend
This event is open to trans and gender nonconforming artists of all skill levels and disciplines. It is run by transgender artists and open to anyone who self identifies as transgender or gender nonconforming. All attendees are expected to be respectful of all other attendees.
Who Is Organizing This Event
The Spooky Haus is a transgender/gender-nonconforming artist cooperative. Local to the East Bay, we work toward self realization and expression through collaborative art. We believe that the transgender experience is more than suffering; gender is art and beauty and love. As a community, we promote a sense of acceptance and social safety, providing a space that encourages exploration and experimentation of all kinds. This event is organized by Lior, Miriam and Nathaniel. You can reach us by emailing artjam@spookyhaus.com or DMing us on instagram!
Ok But Who’s Leading This Show?
Everyone who attends Art Jam has a say in how the event is run. Each attendee has the opportunity to lead a session, and the weekend’s schedule is shaped by what attendees want to jam about. For inspiration, some of the classes that are already in the works include screen printing, zine making and poetry. Applications to run sessions are due February 1st and we will confirm all sessions by February 10th. All materials and supplies will be provided for each workshop.

How To Jam
Get a ticket! After you’ve bought your ticket fill out the attendee information form. If you’d like, you can include details about the session you would like to host in this initial attendee form. Don’t worry if you need time to think about it; we will send out a secondary form to apply to be a session leader. All applications for leading sessions are due by February 1st. This will allow us time to build the schedule and purchase materials. As long as there is space available in the event, attendees may still register until the day of the event.
Accessibility and COVID-19 information
We are very excited to be able to host Art Jam at Firehouse Projects, a totally rad event space in Oakland. It has a large indoor area and two courtyards which we’ll be using for meals and workshops, weather permitting. There are no stairs into the building and a short ramp into the courtyards. There is an accessible bathroom on premises. Firehouse is located three blocks from Oakland Chinatown / Lake Merritt BART station.
Attendees will be required to do a rapid test before entering the space. We will have some rapid tests available at the door for $10, but to save time please rapid test before you arrive and take a photograph of your test. Believe us, sitting in the courtyard while you wait on your test while everyone else is starting the Jam is no fun. The venue is large and well-ventilated, and masking will be optional at the event after a rapid test is taken.
We are dedicated to making this event accessible for all attendees, and will be asking for accommodations such as dietary restrictions, interpretation needs, and mobility needs in the registration form. Please don’t hold back and let us know if you have any concerns so we can solve it together.
A Note About Food: Food provided during the event will be by default vegetarian, please let us know about any dietary restrictions or allergies.
Cancellation Policy
We will not be providing refunds except in the case of a positive COVID-19 test or known COVID-19 exposure within 12 days before the event. Please contact us at artjam@spookyhaus.com you are unable to attend for any other extenuating circumstance.
